Cabbage Patch Doll hat

Looking for a cute hat for a Halloween costume or to keep your little one warm? Check out this adorable Cabbage Patch crochet hat pattern. The pattern below is written for an adult size but can be adjusted using the Basic Hat Crochet Pattern found here. It includes a chart with measurements.

This pattern is for adult size but could easily be modified for a smaller size. The photo above is 12 month size so please do not count stitches or rows. It is for example. I hope you enjoy this pattern. Happy hooking!!

Materials needed:

Size H Hook

#4 medium weight yarn

Ribbon

Needle for sewing ends

Scissors

Elastic hair bands

ADULT size Cabbage Patch Hat

Measures 20”W x 8.5”H

Rnd 1: ch 1, 8 hdc in magic ring (do not join continue working in a circle, use stitch marker to mark last stitch of each round)

Rnd 2: 2hdc in each hdc (16)

Rnd 3: hdc, 2hdc repeat around (24)

Rnd 4: hdc, hdc, 2hdc repeat around (32)

Rnd 5: hdc in first 3 st, 2 hdc repeat around (40)

Rnd 6: hdc in first 4 st, 2hdc repeat around (48)

Rnd 7: hdc in first 5 st, 2hdc in next repeat around (56)

Rnd 8: hdc in first 6 st, 2hdc in next repeat around (64)

Rnd 9: hdc in first 7 st, 2hdc in next repeat around (72)

Rnd 10-13 (or maybe more or less) : hdc in each st around (72) join with slip stitch
You will now change to sc rows so you can add the loops for the hair.

Rnd 14?: Ch 1. Sc in 21 stitches.

Make loop st for 30 stitches across. Here’s a video (not mine) for how to make the Loop Stiches

Finish out round 14 by sc in last 21 st. Sl st to 1st sc. This will give you loop stitch as “bangs”.

Continue to repeat round 14 until the hat measures suggested height of 8.5”

You want at least 4 rows of loop stitches. Also note that in order to make the sc on the right side you will be making the loops on the inside of the hat and pull them through to the outside

Finish off and add braided pig tails. I used about 40 strands of yarn about 20” long on each braid.

Tie off braids with hair ties and add ribbon bows to top of braid.

Hoping to be able to add the child size pattern soon. But should easily be modified using the Basic Crochet Hat Pattern found here. It includes a measurement chart.
