Learn How to Crochet a Dish Cloth with Pattern and Video Tutorial

The video starts with a foundation row. What is a foundation row? It eliminates the need to start with a long chain by crocheting the first row AND the chain together. This is my favorite way to start flat projects. No more need to count long rows of chains.

The dish cloth works 13 rows of half double crochet stitches. It measures about 7″ square. Sometimes I like a bigger dish cloth, so I use 25 stitches by 15 rows.

Why cotton yarn vs. acrylic? Because cotton is more durable and a natural yarn. You can always wash with bleach to remove all bacteria. But you can use whatever yarn you prefer. This pattern will work for any.

I am using Peaches & Cream yarn found at my local Walmart Store. 1 ball will make about 3 dishcloths. I am also my Clover Amour I 5.5mm Crochet Hook. These are my favorite hooks because of the ergonomic handle and the smooth glide.

Row 1: Foundation Half Double Crochet 22 or chain 23, HDC in 2nd chain from hook and each chain across. (22) turn. Beginning chain does not count as a stitch

Row 2 – 13: Ch 1, HDC in each stitch across. (22) turn

Finish off. Weave in ends.

If you prefer to chain instead of making the foundation row, chain 23. Half double crochet (HDC) in 2nd chain (ch) from hook, not counting the first chain as a stitch. HDC in each ch across, making 22 HDC stitches.
